Effective Data Governance principles, policies and operating models form critical foundations for an organisation’s capability to manage, leverage and improve its data assets. The Data Governance Policies enable the organisation to leverage data as an asset, creating a strong data foundation, by implementing a shared set of roles, processes, responsibilities and vocabulary around the purpose and value of data. A Data Governance framework establishes roles and responsibilities for the participants in the organisation. These participants include senior stakeholders, Data Governance bodies (Data Owners Council, Data Stewards Forum and working groups where required), Data Owners, Data Stewards and Data Consumers. This session will walk you through an example of a Data Governance Framework. Garry is currently the Head of Data Governance at Vanquis Banking Group and is accountable for the design, development, and implementation of the Group’s Data Governance Framework, specifically enabling Data Owners and Data Stewards to understand their data more, whilst the Group embarks on a significant Data Transformation programme. Garry has been working in Data Governance for 17 years, both in Consultancy for EY and PWC, and in a number of financial institutions such as Barclays and Visa. Through that he has had a number of adventures and could write a book on the bad mistakes made and lessons learned.

In today's world, data is essential for everything we do. We rely on data to guide us in making decisions about how we build safer communities, build smarter infrastructures, and deliver change sustainably. But data is only valuable if it is managed effectively.
At 1Spatial, we see a data first approach as an integral part of solving business problems. This can be a powerful and effective way to ensure you make trusted and informed decisions before investing in systems and new technologies. Ensuring that data and information is clean and ready to use will minimise the risks and impacts for organisations and wider businesses, including time and costs.

DAMA EMEA CONFERENCE 2023 – BE THERE!
DAMA UK is delighted to announce its involvement in this year’s DAMA EMEA Conference, to be held from 29 November to 2 December 2023. For the first time the conference will be a combined face to face event, held in Bologna, Italy, with a remote stream of selected presentations for those unable to attend in person.
With an ever-evolving technology landscape, using and managing data effectively is key. Failure to stay up to date could result in missed opportunities, decreased efficiency, and increased risk. The DAMA EMEA Conference is your opportunity to hear from professionals and leaders from all over the DAMA EMEA region. This year we are aiming to bring together data management professionals from over 30 countries through 50 conference sessions, including presentations, panels and workshops. Full details of the conference and the agenda can be found at https://data-emea.org
There are 3 options for attending the conference:
In-person with accommodation included in Bologna, Italy
In-person in Bologna, Italy without accommodation
Remote access to selected sessions via the conference virtual event platform
These options are fully explained on the conference website at https://data-emea.org/register-2/
In order to gain the full benefits of the conference we would encourage you to make every effort to attend in-person as this will give you full access to all the sessions and networking opportunities. If you choose this option (with or without accommodation) you can register directly on the conference website at https://data-emea.org
We recognise however that it may not be possible for all to attend in person. The good news for DAMA UK members is that the €600 fee for remote access is waived if you are a current DAMA UK member. If you are not a DAMA UK member you can register for free by joining DAMA UK today, enjoy its many benefits, and obtain your token as below. To join DAMA UK go to https://www.dama-uk.org and click on the JOIN tab.
If you are a current DAMA UK member you will need to obtain a discount token from DAMA UK before you register for the remote virtual stream on the conference website. To do this please register on the left hand menu, minimum details required below.
Your name
DAMA UK membership number (your USER ID)
Contact email address
We will then forward you a token which you can use to register free of charge on the conference website. Please do not try to pass on this token to non DAMA UK members as registrations will be checked and cancelled if the token is misused.
Finally, there are still a limited number of opportunities for conference sponsorship. If this may be of interest to your organisation, please contact Nigel Turner (DAMA UK Committee Member) in the first instance at nigel.turner@dama-uk.org who will be happy to provide further information on the sponsorship options available.
Hope to see as many of you as possible in Bologna or on the remote access stream!
