Too many data management projects and innovations, including data strategy, data governance, master data management, metadata management and others, fail to deliver all or some of their promised benefits.  Sometimes these failures are the result of a wrong choice of technology, or poorly executed technical implementation.  But when failures are analysed it is often cultural, people or communication problems that can derail or destroy a data management initiative, regardless of its technical merits.  All too often these ‘soft’ challenges are ignored or their importance underestimated.  Understanding an organisation’s culture, how its people behave and what is required to gain their commitment to embrace change are critical enablers of data management success.  Ultimately people make data management change happen, not technology.  As Barack Obama once said, ‘We are the change we seek’.

This session is designed to help people who want to understand how the principles and practices of change management can help to ensure the success of their data management projects.  It will also help data management professionals who are currently struggling to overcome the challenges of change management in their data management projects.
